Automower® FAQ

How does Automower® work?

Automower® is a whole new style of lawn care! With traditional mowing, your lawn grows tall before being cut off all at once. By contrast, Automower® clips just a little grass at a time, frequently. The result is a lawn that’s always picture-perfect. And don’t worry about Automower® missing a spot – the unit changes its pattern according to a programmed schedule. When the battery runs low, the Automower® automatically returns to the charging station.

  • Navigates lawns in a random pattern getting to all areas of the lawn – even yards with obstacles and slopes.
  • Mows both day and night – and even in nasty weather.
  • Fully programmable to cut when you want it to.
  • Remains discreet and silent at all times.
  • Works safely around pets and children.
  • Resists theft with a built-in alarm.
  • Fine clippings fertilize naturally.

Does Automower® mow very long grass?

Automower® mows regularly, so grass blades never have an opportunity to grow long. If your grass is long and thick, start with a raised cutting height, gradually reducing to your preferred level. In extreme situations, such as an extremely overgrown area, grass should be cut by a tractor or traditional mower before Automower® takes over.

How does it stay in my yard?

Automower® cuts inside a boundary wire that’s easily installed by a certified installer. It’s a dependable and effective system that can be customized to any yard or series of obstacles. As a result, your Automower® will go only where you want it to go – never in the street or a neighbor’s yard.

  • Easily installed boundary wire
  • Stays within pre-defined area
  • Returns to charger on own

Can Automower® handle all lawn shapes and sizes?

Yes. If you can mow a lawn with a traditional mower, Automower® will mow it, too. The Automower® can handle narrow passages as small as 24” wide.

What about my flowerbeds or gardens? Will my Automower harm them?

Nope! Islands can be created for areas inside the boundary that you do not want to be cut. After the boundary wire is installed correctly around your flowerbed, garden, tree, shrub or water feature, Automower® will not enter that area.

How is the boundary wire installed?

The wire can be laid on the ground using the supplied staples. In a few weeks, the wire will disappear into your lawn. Alternatively, the wire can be buried in the ground at a depth of 1 to 4 inches.

What about pine cones or fruit on the ground?

To maximize the life of Automower®’s blades, rake your yard and collect things like pine cones and crab apples. They won’t damage the mower itself, but the blades will wear out faster.

Does the Automower® mulch leaves?

No. The leaves will not hurt the Automower® but it will not mulch the leaves like a traditional mower. We recommend that you remove or mulch the leaves by other means to avoid the leaves causing damage to the grass.

Can Automower® detect objects that may be in the yard?

Automower® will detect large objects such as trees, grills, or chairs. Once detected, the mower will back up and go another direction. It will not detect small objects, so it’s up to you to keep your lawn free of clutter to avoid damage to your belongings or Automower®’s blades.

Can I use Automower® in a smaller yard?

Yes. Automower can be scheduled based on the size of your yard.

Is Automower® easy to use?

Yes, Automower® is very simple to operate. Once you’ve installed the robotic lawn mower, it automatically ensures that your lawn is cut without any involvement from you. Whether you’re at home or away, your lawn will be well-maintained. You'll never worry about mowing again.

I have allergies – does all that mowing make allergies worse?

On the contrary, if you suffer from grass allergies or hayfever, Automower® is a great solution. Since you don’t need to be present when Automower® is cutting your lawn, you won't be exposed to allergens or pollen. Plus, because the grass is kept short and the clippings are not thrown in the air like during traditional mowing, plant allergens can't become airborne.

How do program my Automower®?

The intuitive display on the Automower® allows you to customize the settings of your mower. For easier programming the Automower®Connect@Home app allows you to access to the mower from your iOS or Android smartphone through Bluetooth.

What’s the lifetime of Automower®’s blades?

The lifespan of Automower®’s blades depends on the type of grass and frequency of mowing. An average lifespan is 2-4 months. The lightweight blades can be replaced with a regular screwdriver in five minutes or less.

Is Automower® safe?

Automower®’s built-in safety features mean the blade will automatically stop if the mower is lifted up or turned over. Plus, Automower® stops and turns around when it encounters an obstacle. The distance between Automower®’s outer body and the blade is extra-wide, which prevents hands or feet from reaching the blades accidentally. However, for guaranteed safety, we recommend turning off the mower when small children are playing on the lawn.

  • Blades stop immediately if unit is lifted
  • Gently moves around yard
  • Light weight blades swing back if contact with object

Is Automower® dangerous to cats and dogs?

No. Pets typically leave Automower® alone. The mower is equipped with sensors so that when it runs into an object such as a pet, it will stop, reverse direction and choose another path.

Will Automower® be stolen?

Your Automower® is uniquely yours. To discourage theft, every Automower® comes with a unique PIN code that must be entered to make the unit operational. Additionally, Automower® has an audible anti-theft alarm built in.

  • PIN code activation
  • Anti-theft alarm

How do program my Automower®?

The intuitive display on the Automower® allows you to customize the settings of your mower. For easier programming the Automower®Connect@Home app allows you to access to the mower from your iOS or Android smartphone through Bluetooth.

How loud is the Automower®?

The sound level of the Automower® is very low, 60 dB(A). By contrast, the average level of normal mowers is between 95 and 100 dB(A). You can easily have the mower working in your yard without disturbing yourself or the neighbors.

  • Far quieter than traditional mowers
  • Won’t disturb the neighbors
  • Can be set to run at night

What if it rains?

Automower® is designed to withstand wet, rainy weather. In fact, your Automower® will continue cutting in dew or rain. However, we do recommend you bring the mower inside during extreme weather conditions.

  1. Works in wet and rainy conditions
  2. Weather resistant
  3. Hose washable

Do I need to store Automower® inside during the winter?

Only store Automower® indoors if you don't need to mow during the winter. The ideal time is once the grass has stopped growing, but you’ll want to bring Automower® inside prior to snow or ice. Before putting Automower® away for the winter, clean and dry the unit. Store the mower in a dry, frost-free location. The battery should be fully charged before storing. The batteries are designed for up to 18 months of storage without needing to be recharged. Also, we recommend the charging station be stored indoors. The loop wire can remain in the lawn without any problems.

Are slopes a problem?

Thanks to its large driving wheels, Automower® works well on uneven ground and slopes up to 22°.

How do I install Automower®?

If you ordered the self-install option, your installation kit will either be in the box, or delivered separately. If you selected the installation option (not available on the 115H and 115H 4G models), Professional Installation is included in the price and we will contact you to schedule the install once your order is placed.

What to expect after installation?

After installation, your grass may take a few weeks to adjust to the new mowing routine. During this time, you may see some unevenness in the grass length. During the installation, the boundary wire and mower will be set based on experience. The boundary wire may need to be adjusted or mower settings adjusted to optimize the cutting performance.
